Sterling Scott Ltd is a Financial Adviser firm that aims to provide jargon free advice. Our aim is to ensure you understand the advice we provide before you commit yourself to any action and then to carry out regular reviews to ensure their ongoing relevance.

In our experience, the most regular comment we hear from clients was that the advice they have been provided with may have been good but they did not really understand it. Both in writing and verbally, we aim to use plain English that the layman can understand.

Specialist Areas We Cover

Investment strategy

It is important to ensure our clients savings are placed in the correct arrangements to ensure access, growth and flexibility. “One size does not always suit all” and this is the same for investments. By considering a range of types of investment vehicles we endeavour to set and achieve goals, whether that be buying the next car, university costs or planning for retirement, whilst mitigating the liability to taxes on the proceeds.

Retirement Planning

It is important to ensure that when our clients reach their retirement date, at whatever age that may be, they have sufficient assets to provide them with the necessary income to maintain their desired quality of life. An employers pension may achieve this but more often additional arrangements may be needed. We help to set goals and achieve them with options and flexibility where needed. There is an old Chinese proverb that states “The best time to plant a tree is twenty years ago; the second best time is now.” This proverb could have been written about retirement saving. There is no doubt that the sooner you start contributing towards your retirement the better your retirement will be. More than any other form of savings, pensions benefit from significant tax breaks which will help your savings to grow quicker.

Business & Family Protection

Our aim is to ensure that our clients and their families and /or business are protected against the effects of a premature death, illness or accident. Any of these occurrences could put the family’s home or standard of living in jeopardy and we aim to mitigate the adverse effect should any of these occur. It’s easy these days to simply go online and buy a policy but are you buying the right protection policy for the right reasons? Protection plans come in many guises including whole of life, family income benefit and mortgage protection. On top of this, there are lots of additional choices such as level, decreasing & increasing cover, flexible term, renewable, first/second death, critical illness, terminal illness? And what about placing the plan in trust? All of this is relevant to a business and its continued profitability.

Tax Planning

It is hard enough for our clients to save for their futures without having to pay a portion of their savings/income in tax. Whatever area of financial planning we are working with, we will always consider the most tax efficient method available to achieve our client’s goals. Although most clients are aware of income tax, few take advantage of other tax allowances such as this for Capital Gains Tax and most do nothing reduce their Inheritance Tax liabilities.

Estate Planning

Someone once said “Inheritance Tax is a voluntary tax” meaning we are able to reduce paying it, with a little planning. We will help our clients to assess their potential liability and can make recommendations to reduce their eventual liability, where possible. As well as ensuring their estate passes to the people they want to receive it.

Long term care

As we all get older and live longer, inevitably this will result in more of us requiring some level of additional care. Yes, the local government is required to make provision but all too often there is either no budget for support or not to the standard we would wish for our loved ones. Costs can be a huge burden not only for clients but their families as well. We can help arrange solutions that can cover the costs of residential or nursing home fees. Long Term Care plans are designed to assist in meeting the costs of this additional care providing a guaranteed income for as long as it is required. We understand the importance of making your money last.
